Design, Content, Pub Trivia, and Birdos.
When I was five, I proudly announced to my dad, who was a graphic designer, that I wanted to be an artist when I grew up. I spent my childhood with a paintbrush in my hand, and even went so far as to paint a mural on my parent’s garage when I was seven (imagine my mother’s shock when our neighbor knocked on our door one day and said, “Do you know Mary’s painting on your garage?”). To this day, I have to stop myself from doodling on any scrap of paper I can find.
So, it wasn’t much of a shock to anyone when I chose graphic design for my career path. In the early days, I focused on book design. I loved the entire world of books, from learning editing and proofreading marks, to designing and flowing interior text, to designing covers, and learning about the printing process. Having my design world focus primarily around books gave me a love for the written word and even the inspiration to start writing.
Over the years, I’ve had a rich career as an art director and designer, broadening my creative horizons from print media and branding, to digital and web, and moving into marketing content and social media management as well. Combining my talents of design, writing, and a love of the digital world, has positioned me as more of a holistic creative. I even published my first novel recently, Beyond the Mirror of Time (available on Kindle).
I work out of my home in the country, with a view of the woods and the birds (which I Instagram and Blog about). I spend my free time with my husband, Dan, at pub trivia, out in nature, or exploring the small town where we’ve found ourselves transplanted. I’m a huge reader, a sci fi/fantasy nerd, and am a Survivor fanatic. I love to bake and will try almost anything I see on The Great British Bakeoff.
